​The Hammerstein International Youth Vocal Solo Competition is the first international vocal competition aimed at young performers, ages 23 and under, honoring the legacy of Oscar Hammerstein. 

 Who is Eligible?  – The contest is open to all singers of all nationalities, ages 5-23 years old. For the purposes of this contest age categories are as follows. ​

  • Elementary School [E] – Students enrolled in Kindergarten – 5th Grade

  • Middle School [M ] – Students enrolled in 6th – 8th Grade

  • High School [H ] – Students enrolled in 9th – 12th Grade

  • College [C] – Undergraduate College Students in either their Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Year of College

  • Local Category – All singers that reside in Bucks County will be automatically entered into the local category in addition to their age category contest

Contest Timeline & Notification of Winners:

  • Semi-Finalists will be notified via email on January 15th.

  • 2nd-Chance Voting Round - Singers who were not initially selected as a semi-finalist will receive an email providing access to our specially designed 2nd chance voting round website. Contestants will have until Friday, January 22nd to collect votes. The contestant that collects the most votes in each age category will be promoted to semi-finalist status.

  • 2nd-Chance Voting Round Winners will be notified via email that they have been promoted to Semi-finalist status on Saturday, January 23rd. At this time ALL semi-finalists will be listed on www.hammersteinmuseum.org

  • Finalists will be notified via email and on www.hammersteinmuseum.org on February 1st..

  • Contest winners will be announced via a Facebook Live Broadcast from Oscar Hammerstein’s home on February 12th  at 8 PM.  Winners will also receive a follow-up email on February 13th  with prize claim information.

  • 1 ZOOM voice lesson with Justin Guarini OR Andrew Polec – to be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time

  • The first place winner’s video will be featured on the front page of the OHMTEC Website for a 1 month period.

  • Oscar Hammerstein II Collection, Hal Leonard Corporation – Sheet Music collection with over 50 great songs with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, photos and biography.


Third Place:

Semifinalists will be posted on January 23rd.

Actor & Broadway Performer 

Justin Guarini’s robust performance career launched with the first season of American Idol in 2002.  His stage appearances since then include Broadway productions of American Idiot, Romeo and Juliet, Wicked and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.  In television, Justin has hosted shows such as Idol Wrap and Idol Tonight, along with live events for the TV Guide Network, the Oscars, the Emmys and the Grammys.  He continues to reprise his role as the lovable Lil’ Sweet in commercials for Diet Dr. Pepper.  A strong proponent for music education in schools, Justin has advocated for funding on Capitol Hill by lobbying for the International Music Products Association.  He has worked with Education Through Music Los Angeles, a nonprofit that promotes using music education as a catalyst to improve academic achievement, motivation for school and self-confidence in underserved communities.  In 2019, Justin founded Artist Mindset Mastery (ILiveToPerform.com) to help performers achieve success.

Andrew Polec has starred as Strat in the Broadway production of Bat Out of Hell, and in the London and Toronto productions of the same.  Off-Broadway credits include as Matt in The Fantastics.  His regional theater appearances include the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (John Andre-The General From America), Trinity Repertory Theatre (Young Scrooge-A Christmas Carol and Yegorshka/Peter-Ivanov) and the Providence Fringe Festival (Max-Where the Wild Things Are).  AndrewPolec.com
