Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty are considered the foremost
theatrical writing team of their generation. They won Tony, Drama Desk and
Outer Critics Circle Awards for Ragtime, which also garnered the 2026
Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. Ahrens and Flaherty were nominated
for two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes for the animated feature
film Anastasia, which they also adapted for Broadway. Since its Broadway
incarnation, Anastasia has traveled the world, enjoying first-class
productions in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, Japan, Australia
and more. They are four-time Grammy nominees, and their many mutual
theater credits include the Broadway productions of Once On This Island
(2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical); Seussical (one of the
most produced shows in America); Rocky; My Favorite Year; and Chita
Rivera: The Dancer's Life. Off-Broadway includes: A Man of No
Importance, Dessa Rose, The Glorious Ones (all of which premiered at
Lincoln Center Theater); Lucky Stiff, Knoxville and the upcoming Little
Dancer, which will have its London premiere at the Theatre Royal
Haymarket in 2027. Individually, Ms. Ahrens is an Emmy Award winner and
Lilly Award recipient. She wrote book and lyrics for Madison Square
Garden’s A Christmas Carol and her extensive work in television and film
includes Schoolhouse Rock (mainstay singer/songwriter, ABC-TV); the
feature film Camp (IFC) and many others. Mr. Flaherty composed the score
of the dance play In Your Arms (Old Globe), incidental music for Neil
Simon's Proposals (Broadway) and the score for Loving Repeating: A
Musical Of Gertrude Stein (Chicago’s Jefferson Award, Best New Musical.)
He was recently awarded the Richard Rodgers Award for Lifetime
Achievement. Ahrens and Flaherty are co-founders of the Dramatists Guild
Fellows Program for Emerging Writers, a program that has nurtured new
playwrights and musical theater writers since 2000. In 2015 they were
inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.
